Hospice care is covered under Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance plans. Hospice of Northeast Missouri is a Medicare/Medicaid certified provider. Billing for our services is outlined below.

Medicare

The Medicare hospice benefit covers 100% of hospice services. If the patient receives care in the home and has Medicare, Hospice will bill Medicare directly for our services. No billing will be sent to the patient or patient’s estate.

If the patient receives care in a skilled nursing facility, Hospice services are billed to Medicare for that care. However, the skilled nursing facility will have separate charges for room and board that will be billed to either Medicaid, a private insurance, or to the patient/family for payment. No separate billing will be sent to the patient or the patient’s estate by Hospice of Northeast Missouri.

Medicaid

Medicaid covers 100% of hospice services. For a patient who receives care in their home and is on Medicaid, Hospice will bill Medicaid directly. No separate billing will be sent to the patient or the patient’s estate by Hospice of Northeast Missouri.

If a patient receives Hospice care in a skilled nursing facility and has both Medicare and Medicaid, Hospice services will be billed to Medicare, and room and board charges will be billed to Medicaid. No separate billings will be sent to the patient or the patient’s estate from Hospice of Northeast Missouri.

Private Insurance

Coverage of hospice services are unique to each private insurance plan. If a patient has private insurance coverage, Hospice will bill the insurance directly. Any deductible and/or co-pay amounts, and/or non-covered services, will be billed to the patient or the patient’s estate by Hospice of Northeast Missouri.

Uninsured

Patients without insurance coverage receiving hospice care are considered private pay and will be billed directly. However, Hospice of Northeast Missouri will consider all patients who are uninsured, under-insured or unemployed as potential candidates for charitable assistance. Eligible individuals will receive prompt financial counseling. Charitable services will be provided without an expectation of payment.
